Herbie went to get my pantry door today. After he got it home and in the garage, we discovered it opened the wrong way. We ordered it to open from the left but the one we go opened from the left inside the pantry. So Herbie returned it and reordered it.
The roof finally got finished today. What an ordeal! It looks good. We get new gutters after we return from vacation.
Herbie did get some work done today on the pantry, It's really coming together. Our cabinet that was damaged came in and was delivered today. Here's a current look at the pantry
We also got the security console moved today. It was originally on the wall that is to become the pantry. It is now more centrally located.
We also have a new roof now. It took 2 days but it's done!
Now for a well-deserved week vacation! We are so looking forward to the beach!
Jerry and Karen Herbert are taking on remodeling their 1960's era kitchen. Join the journey.

how many projects can we juggle at one time?
I (Karen) spent Thursday thru Saturday in Gurdon with Linda, Kim and Kim's family. We made huge progress in the house. In the meantime, Herbie stayed with the dogs and worked on various projects including the kitchen.
As I mentioned last post, we had a raccoon that wanted to live in our attic. Herbie spent several days last week dealing with making sure it was gone and getting roofing estimates. We are long overdue for a new roof and gutters. We made our selection and they were supposed to do the roof yesterday (Monday). Whatever happened and that didn't. They finally showed up today and will finish tomorrow. Gutters will happen the first week of April. Turns out we had some rotten boards because of the old gutters so it was indeed a necessity.
Herbie is supposed to be helping at church getting the building ready for our 50th Birthday party. He's been spending a day here and there as he can. As I also mentioned, the church has to replace 2 air conditioners so he's been helping get estimates on that.
With all that happening, progress is still being made on the kitchen. The pantry has been framed and the pantry door came in today. The pantry door is one of my indulgences. I just couldn't deal with a regular door so I ordered a cute one at triple the cost of a boring one. I'll post a picture when we get it. Anyway, Herbie has done an awesome job of framing out the pantry.

We have to move the security console. You can see it in the above picture. We don't want it in the pantry so we moved it to beside where the desk will be. That caused another couple of holes to have to be cut in the wall (like we need a reason).
So, old intercom system is gone, new security system console is installed ( not in this picture).
After attempting to sand the walls, Herbie decided that it would be best to cover them with new sheet rock. The sheet rock for the pantry has been purchased, the door will be here tomorrow. We're ready to move forward. AFTER a trip to our time share in North Redington Beach Florida. Vacations MUST come first.

Progress
We finished our garage sale and had a much better weekend. Everything is packed away and we move forward. Herbie got back on the Pantry project
He's very excited that we have actual vertical boards. Oh, the joy of progress.
We also got the first batch of cabinets delivered now that we have space for them. We have split the order down to fit our plan to do the kitchen in segments. The garage went from sale stuff to cabinet boxes.
and yes, that's Bill Clinton overlooking the operation:)
We found out Friday that we had a racoon dig thru our roof and decide to live in our attic. We had the Piped Piper guy come out to put scent out to make the raccoon leave. We also have to have a new roof which is long overdue. Guess that trumps the new windows we were planning. So that's happening soon.
And though it doesn't impact our kitchen project, our church was vandalized and the cooper was taken out of 2 of our air conditioners. Herbie has been meeting HVAC folks to get estimates.
And if that's not enough, my brother is coming from Houston with his wife, daughter and step-daughter to help clean out Mother's house. I'm picking his son up at the airport tomorrow and we'll all convene in Gurdon for a few days. Memories and fun together remembering Mother and Daddy and our life in that house. I realize that has nothing to do with our Kitchen but life happens:)

more delays
We had our garage sale last weekend but Saturday was a bummer. It rained over night and then turned out cold and windy. We actually sold more than we expected but didn't have much traffic. We decided since we had it all laid out and the weather will be sunny to have another one this weekend. So we're on again for Friday and Saturday. After that we're donating stuff with maybe a few things going on Craigslist.
In addition, our first cabinet order came in. So we have a big incentive to clean out the garage and move forward. Herbie has been sidetracked by not only the garage sale but getting things at the church ready for our 50th Birthday party. He's been working with other guys on the floors in the education building. And I've been sidetracked by getting the invitations out for the 50th.
Next week my bother Kim is bringing a crew to Gurdon to help clean out Mother's house. His 2 kids, Aja and Kyle are on Spring Break. He's bringing his wife Julie and her daughter Caitlin. There are no breaks around here!
Hopefully, we'll have more updates soon.
